چکیده

after colorectal anastomoses is not rare, occurring in 3-30% of post colorectal anastomosis, according to authors’ varied definitions, and is considered to be related to factors including radiation, anastomotic ischemia or leakage, and suture technique. Most involve the middle and lower rectum and may spontaneously improve without treatment; however, some strictures persist, necessitating intervention using procedures such as endoscopeor fluoroscopeguided dilation or stenting, re-anastomosis, transanal stricturoplasty and electrocautery resection, or incision, with or without dilation. The first successful trial of balloon dilation of an upper gastrointestinal tract stricture was performed in the 1980s, and the same procedure was subsequently used to treat strictures of the lower gastrointestinal tract. Balloon dilation of strictures of the gastrointestinal tract has been shown to be a convenient and effective method of treatment for most patients, though repeated J Soc Colon Rectal Surgeon (Taiwan) September 2009

Percutaneous Transhepatic Balloon Dilation of Biliary-Enteric Anastomotic Strictures after Surgical Repair of Iatrogenic Bile Duct Injuries

PURPOSE To evaluate the efficacy of percutaneous balloon dilation of biliary-enteric anastomotic strictures resulting from surgical repair of laparoscopic cholecystectomy-related bile duct injuries. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 61 patients were referred to our institution from 1995 to 2010 for treatment of obstruction at the biliary-enteric anastomosis following surgical repair of laparosc...

Endoscopic balloon dilation of Crohn’s disease strictures-safety, efficacy and clinical impact

AIM To evaluate the incidence of anastomotic strictures after intestinal resection in Crohn's disease (CD), demonstrate long-term efficacy and safety of endoscopic balloon dilation (EBD) in CD strictures and its impact on the diagnosis of subclinical postoperative endoscopic recurrence. METHODS Retrospective single tertiary center study based on prospectively collected data between 2010 and 2...

Endoscopic electrocautery incision therapy for benign lower gastrointestinal tract anastomotic strictures

Benign anastomotic strictures can occur in up to 22% of patients who undergo colonic or rectal resection. Traditionally, surgery was the preferred method of treatment, but, over time, endoscopic techniques, such as balloon dilation, have become the preferred modality. However, a high stricture recurrence rate of up to 18-20% and the increased risk of perforation due to uncontrolled stretching a...

Neovesical-Urethral Anastomotic Stricture Successfully Treated by Ureteral Dilation Balloon Catheter

Neovesical-urethral anastomotic stricture is a complication of orthotopic neobladder, with a reported incidence of 2.7% to 8.8%. Strictures of the neovesico-urethral anastomotic site can be treated with regular self-dilation, but high-grade strictures require a surgical procedure involving incision by electrocautery or cold knife. Here we describe a grade III neovesical-urethral anastomotic str...

Choledochoscopic high-frequency needle-knife electrotomy for treatment of anastomotic strictures after Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy.

BACKGROUND Anastomotic stricture is a complex and substantial complication following Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy. Initially, endoscopic and percutaneous approaches are often attempted, but the gold standard remains surgical biliary reconstruction, especially for refractory stricture. However, this solution leaves much room for improvement, due to the challenging nature of the biliary reconstr...
